It doesn’t matter where you stand on the corporate ladder you can still be affected by workplace stress. On this page we explain how hypnotherapy treatments can be very useful in fighting workplace stress.
Do you feel the stress at work? Welcome to the club!
Workplaces are becoming progressively more stressful, and whether you are the top dog or the mail-room boy, work stress may affect you. Actually, a Health and Safety Executive survey for 2013/14 (see footnote 1) suggested that stress, anxiousness and depression are responsible for around 39% of all workplace illness.
Are you near the top of the corporate ladder? Are you finding that you are affected by problematic staff, achieving targets or the demanding business conditions? Or perhaps you’re a basic level worker struggling to cope with the numerous layers of management passing down orders to you every single day, pushing you to improve when you really feel you simply cannot complete one task well, let alone several.
A lot of corporations are currently struggling with a steep rise in staff absences, and while the reasons given are generally not related to any psychological problems, more often than not a high number of those absences are in fact brought on by stress. Fellow workers may also be suspicious that a person who is absent is simply ‘making it up’, which can then make it significantly more difficult for the absentee employee to come back, building the stress and anxiety and contributing to the general problem.
The obligation for taking on workplace stress sits mainly on the shoulders of the organisation however; the member of staff is also in control of seeking help if needed.
In company environments, most workers that have high levels of stress at work will probably continue working until they quite literally have a breakdown and find themselves thoroughly unable to function. Some may find they struggle to make decisions, feel tired and fatigued and start to feel withdrawn and panicky at the slightest addition of any pressure or strain put upon them. Eventually their work might begin to suffer as they struggle to meet deadlines, and they simply don’t perform at their best in high pressure scenarios, and as a result they and the company they work for may suffer too.
Hypnotherapy can be a valuable tool in combating stress at work. Hypnotherapy tackles the underlying thought processes, feelings and beliefs which are creating or sustaining stress, as well as teaching coping procedures for the present.
More often than not it is the case that stress is attributed to an underlying anxiousness or past event that is still causing emotional problems and the stress maybe absolutely nothing to do with the external conditions the worker finds themselves in right now.
Lyta Humphris from Hypnosis Devon based in Plymouth, Devon explained why in her view hypnotherapy is extremely effective in stopping stress at work. She said, ” eradicating stress at work is all about changing your thoughts, feelings, the way you approach your work, and most import how you approach problems at work. We are all unique and respond differently to stress at work, so there is no formulaic approach to deal with it. So when I work with a client I will establish how they generate inappropriate levels of stress and find ways to change their behaviours accordingly.”
Hypnotherapy can help you to uncover the internal stress triggers , so that you can be more self-assured and relaxed in previously stressful situations. Not only does hypnotherapy usually remove the effects of stress in their working life but also it in many cases has a powerful effect on the home life as well.
It is a win-win situation for the employee and the company and if corporations invested more in their employee’s mental health we would have far fewer sick days which is great for our economy as well.
