Treating psychological and physical issues using hypnotherapy involves establishing rapport with the client the moment you meet. The people in Plymouth are not sure what to expect the first time they visit a hypnotherapist.  There is often some nervousness since the situation is unfamiliar, and they have usually seen many responses by participants on a hypnosis stage show, I’ve seen a few of them in Plymouth, so it is important to sort out any misconceptions a client may have about hypnosis, and explain they remain fully aware of their surroundings, are in complete control, and hear everything that you say.

Hypnotherapy is a planned programme of treatment which can help overcome physical and mental difficulties in your life. It is a way of allowing your mind to show you how to make changes in yourself for your benefit. It is a very gentle and easy process, which does not push you into any direction you do not want to go. It is also very beneficial for opening up your creativity and finding new ways of learning.

What happens specifically depends on the issue being treated.  However, typically the client then relaxes on a comfortable chair, and closes their eyes. Your therapist will use various techniques to allow you to achieve a comfortable relaxed state of mind and body.

Many different techniques are used, depending on the problem.  One of the aims is to identify pent up negative feelings and release them and look to the future. A further aim is to help you learn how to interrupt negative self talk, and change it to positive.

Everyone feels differently when they are in hypnosis.  Some feel very tingly, especially in their hands, others feel heavy, yet others feel light or floaty and drifting, whilst others just feel comfortably relaxed.  It’s a nice feeling!

Once the therapist has taken the client through the hypnotic techniques needed for their problem, she asks them to open their eyes and the session is over. Some clients remember everything that was said, whilst others remember parts of the session, and still others remember nothing.  Everyone is different, there is no right or wrong way to enjoy hypnosis.
